DEATH OF NEWS

Your Future Without Facts

Phillip Milano

Which of these headlines is true?

* Suicide roller-coaster would starve your brain of oxygen – then kill you
* Cell phones give off so much radiation you can pop popcorn with them
* Lady Gaga is a hermaphrodite

Unsure? Then that’s the problem. In an age when mainstream journalism
seems to be dying faster than the latest iPhone battery, we’re all being left to
our own devices – literally – to sift through a vast “data wasteland.”
What happened to our once-revered and now often reviled media? How will you
now filter the rumors, lies and innuendo piling up on the web and your latest hand- held gadget? (Bring yours to the event, by the way. You may need it to keep up.)

From the same unconventional mind that is inspiring thousands of college
students to re-think cultural awareness comes a new, radical vision for how
to keep you accurately informed amid the blogs, tweets and status updates.
Award-winning journalist Phillip Milano has flouted the media powers that be
before with his taboo-busting “Dare to Ask” cross-cultural column and popular
book/lecture “I Can’t Believe You Asked That!”

In this new program he uses biting wit and unyielding hope to confront one of our greatest challenges as he asks his audience to discuss a critical question:

Will you be able to see the truth, the lies and the difference between them?

Phillip Milano is author of "I Can't Believe You Asked That!" (Perigee), writer of the "Dare To Ask" column and founder of YForum.com. The veteran newspaper editor is also creator of The National Diversity Newspaper Job Bank and is former chair of the Recruitment and Youth Development Committee of The Newspaper Association of America's Diversity Board. Phillip received his MBA from Northern Illinois University and bachelor's degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University. The transplanted Midwesterner lives in Florida with his wife and three children.

His presentation was, by turns, funny and provocative, often in the same breath, and my students were left energized, engaged and full of questions. I recommend him highly.
